City Access, Rural Living

City and country are close together in the Hudson Valley. Hike and bike in every direction, on the miles and miles of rail trails, on the Walkway Over the Hudson, or enjoy some of the finest climbing in the Shawangunk Mountains, known to climbers as “The Gunks.” Sail, swim and canoe on the Hudson River, experience the character-filled towns and villages that dot the Catskill Mountains and explore spectacular wilderness areas.

A short hop outside of the cities and towns are magical country vistas, river views, farm cottages and lakeside living. Or you can have a city home and drive, bike, or bus it out to the country on the Dutchess County Public Transit. Because Poughkeepsie has excellent train service from Amtrak and Metro-North, you can make a daytime or overnight trip to New York City and catch a show and be back in 90 minutes. There are many who think the train ride from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie is one of the most beautiful in the world. We think you’ll love the Hudson Valley and Connecticut so much, you may be tempted to stay.
